Robert, a language teacher, leaves England in 1976, accompanied by his adventurous Belgian partner, Moni, to take up a job teaching English in Barcelona. What was to have lasted just a year turns into six years. Robert's unfolding story becomes a voyage of discovery out of which emerges a full length portrait both of Barcelona and of the two people who plunge into the unknown of this magical, sometimes darkly phantasmagorical, city.
