Disaster Risk Reduction Approaches in Pakistan

This book outlines the disaster risk reduction [DRR] approaches in Pakistan drawing examples and lessons from the output of the national and community level programs and projects and other experiences of the country. Pakistan is exposed to numerous disasters of earthquake, floods, landslides, drought, tsunami, climate change and sea level rise. The number and frequency of these disasters are increasing and pose serious threats to the life and property of 180 million people. These disasters have massive and significant adverse impacts on the country economy, infrastructure, education, health, housing and environment. It also poses serious threats to the increasing poverty and also slowdown the progress of achieving national development goals. This is a pioneering reference book focusing on Pakistan focusing on disaster risk reduction approaches. The book draws attention of the policy makers, practitioners working both in public and private sectors, students, academia and Government officials. It has three parts: Part I provides the outline and overview of DRR; Part II focuses on different hazards, risk profile and mitigation in Pakistan; and Part III focuses on approaches and issues of DRR practices and certain examples of disaster responses.
