Environmental Modeling and Health Risk Analysis (Acts/Risk)

The purpose of this book is to provide the readers a unique reference for the integration of fields of environmental quality, multimedia environmental fate and transport processes and the mechanistic models developed in this field with exposure and health risk analysis. To aid the readers implementation of the models discussed in the text, a user friendly software is also provided through which the models discussed in the text can be readily accessed and used. §§The book will focus on the basic background and will emphasize the applications of this background in solving rather complex problems related to health risk analysis. There are a number of books which are available on groundwater, air and surface water quality modelling that are cited throughout this text. The purpose of this book is to provide an integrated view of basic principles and review of analytic models that are available in these fields. The reader will recognize that the principles employed and the modelling tools used in these different environmental pathways, at least in mathematical terms, are very similar. §§This is because transport and fate processes in each pathway are based on principles that are common in mathematical format. The author feels that practicing professionals and students who are interested in these topics will find this integrated approach useful, since it provides a unified source for basic principles involved in these fields along with an application platform which can be used in the solution of a vast class of problems.§§ACTS and RISK are the names of the two software product that will be included in the book. The ultimate goal of the book is the integration of environmental health topics with topics of engineering analysis.
