List of Substances of the Competent Federal and Federal States Authorities §§Plants and preparations thereof represent an important part of our balanced diet. Besides the application as fruits, vegetables or grain we also use them as ingredients in form of herbs or spices or enjoy them as tea. Increasingly, we also have to deal with exotic plants whose usage as food isn t quite known in Germany so far.§§In supermarkets or drugstores an increasing number of products is sold that contain plant preparations and pretend to benefit health maintenance. These preparations have been mostly known to be formerly used in pharmaceutical products.§§The present category Plants and plant parts of the List of Substances of the Competent Federal and Federal States Authorities was provided, in order to facilitate the classification and evaluation of plants and plant parts regarding their use as food or food additive.§§Apart from the classification under formal legal aspects, the list also informs about possible risks of a corresponding usage. The List of Substances shall serve public authorities and producers/distributors of food as a form of a guideline.§
